New Students

We will have a virtual open house for parents and students in May. We are still discussing platform to be used and agenda. But the main objective is to welcome our new Irving families, give an overview of our academic program, give you an opportunity to meet some of teachers and staff and answer any questions you might have for us. We will then have an orientation in August that goes over school rules and parent/student resources. Since we are still waiting for the state’s plan to reopen to take place is too early to decide on whether orientation will be online or at school.

Is there a "buddy" assigned to new students?

We will offer the Irving Buddy program to all new students who are interested. You will be given the opportunity to sign up at orientation. Our buddy program is run by leadership students.

Will there be a pre-7th grade remote summer school program to support incoming students?

It's too early for us make any program offerings public, as we are still unsure of the approach the district will allow us to take in regards to summer school. The district did announce the will offer Virtual Extended Learning Opportunities for middle school students, but we are still not sure how students will be able to sign up.  Our current focus has been immediate attention to providing academic support to our current students and making sure they have the resources to take advantage of our current online curriculum. We will definitely inform Irving families once a decision has been made. Also, please know that our block schedule provides us with the opportunity to provide an array of intervention methods of which we offer to students. In addition to learning reading and writing skills in ELA courses, our students also learn these skills in our elective courses, as we practice writing across the curriculum.
