Attendance Policy

Come to School, Come on Time

Student success in school is directly tied to attendance.  Students who develop patterns of good attendance are much more likely to be successful both academically and socially.  Responsibility for attending class lies with the student.  Students with perfect attendance will be recognized at the end of the year.

Families can help minimize absences by:  Planning family vacations for non-school days only; scheduling non-emergency medical and dental appointments after school hours or during your child’s vacation; if the appointment must be during school hours, please have your child attend school prior to the appointment and/or return to school before/after the appointment; communicating often with your child’s teachers and request assignments missed during absences.

If a student is absent from class, your son or daughter MUST bring a signed note from the parent verifying the absence to the attendance office immediately upon returning to school.  The Note must include: 1) student’s full name, 2) birthday, 3) grade level 4) date(s) of absence, 5) specific reason for the absence, 6) a full signature of the parent or guardian.  ANY ABSENCE NOT CLEARED WITHIN THREE SCHOOL DAYS WILL BE RECORED AS A TRUANCEY.

Excused absences:  An absence due to a student’s illness, injury or quarantine under the direction of a county or city health office; or having a medical, dental, or optometric or chiropractic services; or failure to present evidence of immunizations; for personal counseling, or absence due to attendance at a funeral of an immediate family member.  A student absent from school for the above excused reasons shall make up all assignments and tests that were missed.

Unexcused absences:  Any absence for reasons other than those listed above are unexcused.  The District is required by law to seek an explanation from the parent/guardian regarding all absences.  The student will be classified as truant after the third unexcused or un-cleared absence for more than any 30 minute period form the school in a school year.  This could be grounds for referral to the Student Attendance Review Board.

Students who are late to school in the morning, must go to the attendance office to sign in and get a pass before going to class.  Students who are late to school should bring an excuse from parents.

A student will be marked tardy if he/she is not in his/her seat when the bell rings.  Tardies are counted and recorded on the student’s permanent record.  Excessive tardies may result in a “U” in work habits.

Absence Note Must Include:

  1. Student's Full Name

  2. Student's Birthday

  3. Grade Level

  4. Date(s) of Absence

  5. Specific Reason for Absence

  6. Full Signature of Parent or Legal Guardian
